Comedy duo couple Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont have announced they are divorcing after nine years of marriage.

In a joint statement shared on Friday, the two explained they had “jointly and amicably” made the decision to split.

The statement read: “After nine years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated.

“We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.

“As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.

“We will be making no further comment.”

The couple, who have also starred in Celebrity Gogglebox, starred together in Meet The Richardsons, where they played “exaggerated versions of themselves”.

Last year, the couple opened up on the intense pressures they faced, with Taskmaster star Richardson explaining: “To give us some credit, I think we are really good at what is quite an intense thing you know, working together on a project that does take the full year to write the series film the series, edit it and promote it.”

Speaking to Metro, he added: “We’re always working on it and to balance that amongst still maintaining a private life isn’t easy, and I think we’re really good at it.

“There are times obviously it’s difficult because marriage is difficult anyway, you know, I could be a dentist and Lucy could be a teacher and marriage is just difficult.”

The couple’s Meet The Richardsons co-star Amanda Abbington made headlines this week over a clip that surfaced of her in the show.

The circulated clip from mockumentary series, in which Abbington also plays an exaggerated version of herself, showed her fuming: “No!” after a fan asks for a photo.

“F*****g Sherlock, f*****g fans are the f*****g worst,” she added angrily, continuing: “’Want to get a selfie’ oh shut up, t**t!”

Later in the episode, another fan asked: “Aren’t you in Sherlock? Can I get a selfie?” before Abbington’s character furiously pulls the phone out of her fan’s hand and throws it, yelling: “No you can’t get a f*****g selfie you stupid Sherlock.”

While the scenes are fictional, some seem to have taken the reports seriously, sparking Abbington to take to social media over the clips.

The 52-year-old released an Instagram statement shortly after, pleading for people to “leave me alone”.

She wrote: “I’m an actress. That’s my career. I’ve cultivated my career for 31 years. I would never treat anyone like that in real life. Obviously.

“I’m posting this because some folks seem to think it newsworthy. If you could just leave me alone for a bit, that would be lovely. Loads of other stuff going on in the world. It’s all feeling pretty relentless.”
