Liam Gallagher has slapped back at claims Oasis could make a comeback after former bandmate Andy Bell suggested a reunion could be on the horizon.

Bell claimed Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel will “probably” reconcile in the future, but fans’ hopes have quickly been dashed.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday, Gallagher, 51, aimed a not-so-subtle dig at the former Oasis bass player.

He penned: “Andy bell from ride the shoe gazing phenomenon should really not be getting people’s hopes up it’s not big and it’s not clever LG x.”

As fans took to the comments section to express their disappointment, Bell, 59, responded to the awkward scolding.

Sharing the post, he wrote: “Apologies ! Didn’t mean to get anyone’s hopes up, nothing to see here ! X.” (sic)

It came after Bell was asked if he thinks the feuding Gallagher brothers will ever revive the band, to which he replied: “Yeah, they probably will. I think yeah, they probably will do it.”

Speaking to Andy Goldstein on Virgin Radio UK, he continued to raise hopes by adding: “I don’t think it looks likely right now, but life is long, isn’t it?

“As a Stone Roses fan, that reunion happened completely against the way things were looking.

“They were not getting on at all and there was a lot of bad blood in the press and stuff with the Roses, and then suddenly you were hearing about gigs. I think we could see something like that for Oasis.”

Reflecting on how he joined the band, Bell recalled: “I got into [Oasis] very early on, and I saw some really early gigs of theirs.

“I saw them upwards of 10 times all around the country, so yeah, I’m a huge fan.”

The musician went on: “It was a couple of years after Ride split, and I was in a new band called Hurricane. We had broken up, and there had been a story in the papers saying that my band had broken up, and I guess [Oasis] realised I was knocking around.”

Responding to Gallagher’s angry social media post, fans were left divided over the apparent confirmation that Oasis are gone for good.

“He’s [Bell] just saying what you’ve said a million times already,” one wrote, to which Gallagher replied: “I’ve never mentioned oasis reunion it’s over we must all really move in for our own mental health.”

Another argued: “I’ve seen Oasis live over 30 times, as well as BE, they were the best days of my life, but I’ve genuinely got not desire to see them again. Some things are best left as glorious memories. I’d rather see LG keep doing his thing.”

“That’s what I would say if Oasis was getting back together,” another quipped.

“I can’t understand how he could answer for you and Noel…Only you both know and you’ve already answered a lot of times about the reunion…” another fumed.

“He fanning the flames!! LG, gotta keep them embers burning,” someone else shared. (sic)
