Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, the founder and chief executive of Flutterwave, has joined the Founders Council of Semafor’s Silicon Valley & The World Advisory Board, placing African fintech inside one of the most influential circles in global technology.

The advisory board’s co-chairs include OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, Nvidia founder and chief executive Jensen Huang, Microsoft chairman and chief executive Satya Nadella, and AMD chair and chief executive Lisa Su — the executives who effectively control the global artificial intelligence hardware stack.

The appointment was first reported on October 8 and confirmed on October 10, according to reports. Agboola leads Africa’s highest-valued fintech company, and his seat at the table signals a recognition of the continent’s growing weight in the digital economy.

Flutterwave has become a central player in Africa’s payments infrastructure, and Agboola’s new role gives the continent a direct voice in conversations shaping the future of AI, chips, and cloud computing. For an industry long centered on Silicon Valley, the appointment marks a notable widening of the room where decisions are made.

Observers say the move reflects how seriously global technology leaders are now taking African markets — not merely as consumers of innovation, but as producers whose founders belong in the industry’s inner circles.
