Russian strikes on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed at least 20 people on October 10, 2026, including three children, regional authorities said, in one of the deadliest single attacks on a Ukrainian city in recent months.

Ukraine’s National Police said five guided aerial bombs struck residential neighborhoods early Saturday, flattening homes and damaging a tram and surrounding streets. Emergency crews worked through the morning among the rubble as firefighters and police cordoned off the blast sites.

The attacks also caused large-scale power outages in Kyiv and the surrounding region, according to reports, adding to the mounting strain on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Grid operators scrambled to restore electricity to affected districts while residents faced disrupted services.

The strike on Zaporizhzhia underscored the continued toll of the war on civilian areas far from the front lines. Residential districts, not military installations, bore the brunt of the guided bombs, according to the police account.

Authorities in the affected regions urged residents to follow emergency guidance as repair crews continued their work, warning that restoration of full power could take time. The attacks come as Ukraine braces for the challenges of the coming months, with civilian infrastructure increasingly in the crosshairs.
